The event looked at the economic consequences of mass counterfeiting and policies needed to deter counterfeiting, piracy and smuggling. Discussions contributed to an integrated vision of state security and public safety, providing an interdisciplinary dialogue which attracted industry regulators, state agencies, customs authorities, law enforcement, major producers of consumer goods, consumer associations and NGO's. The objective was to deepen understanding of "grey markets" for smuggled, counterfeit and related pirated commercial goods inside India, and emanating from India and coming into India, to assess their impact, and to promote effective strategies by the public and private sectors to dismantle them.

Anti-counterfeiting, piracy and smuggling recommendations

ICC's Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy and FICCI CASCADE joined representatives from several member companies within country to launch a new report at the conference, Counterfeiting, Piracy and Smuggling in India - Effects and Potential Solutions, and presented the report's recommendation at the conference with the goal of moving India's IPR regime forward. The team also presented views on the new National IP Policy and agreed to work toward the development of a joint policy paper, and a conference to present recommendations to key government leaders.
