Summary
BASCAP unveiled its newest set of IP recommendations, Promoting and Protecting the Value of IP in Kenya, at the Regional Africa Workshop on the Practical Approaches to IP Utilization and Protection. Hosts, Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) Office of General Council, United States Department of Commerce and the newly formed Africa IP Group (AIPG), realized the event in working coordination with the US interagency partners and input from private sector partners from the International Trademark Association and BASCAP.
Key recommendations
Representing BASCAP at the workshop, Louis Bonnier, Policy Advisor presented a summary of the findings from the BASCAP report. The Kenya report pinpoints policy and legislative changes to move Kenya's IP regime forward and also strengthen economic development, increase the rate of innovation, attract FDI, and promote research, development, and technology transfer. Recommendations are put forth as a roadmap for improving IPR in Kenya, which currently ranks 95th of 130 countries in the IPR index.
