Mexico City, Mexico IP Guidelines Launch

The Intellectual Property (IP) Guidelines for Business and the report, Maximizing the Value of Mexican Innovations through Intellectual Property, were launched on 29 November 2010 in Mexico City. The event was hosted by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), in cooperation with ICC Mexico, the Mexican Institute of Intellectual Property (IMPI), and Microsoft Mexico.

Summary

The objective of the Latin America series is to raise awareness among local firms (particularly small and medium enterprises) as well as policymakers about the commercial and economic value of intellectual property, to promote better adherence to IP protection laws, and to provide practical tools to companies for managing intellectual assets. For the authorities and companies attending the series, raising awareness about the importance of promoting and protecting IP is crucial to in-country competitiveness. According to Jorge Vega-Iracelay, Director of Corporate and Legal Affairs of Microsoft Mexico, “IP is one of the main incentives for innovation and creation, and therefore, a tool available to contribute to competitiveness, productivity, growth and economic development”.
