BASIS History

In 2003 and 2005, BASIS’s predecessor group, the Coordinating Committee of Business Interlocutors (CCBI), coordinated the involvement of global business at the UN World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).

This summit was the first of its kind and pivotal to bringing global attention to Information Society issues. Together with the ICC Commission on the Digital Economy, CCBI, advocated key business positions, policies and practices on e-business, telecoms, and Internet issues.
After WSIS, business leaders expressed the need for continued global coordination of business interests in global processes established by the Summit. ICC responded to this call by launching its BASIS initiative.
