“Today's major challenges transcend national borders and boundaries;effectively addressing them requires concerted international cooperation. Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges of our times, associated as it is with real needs for energy, development and economic growth. Businesses all over the world are part of the solution and have made major changes in how they operate and have introduced new processes, products and services to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Governments should ensure a broad vision as they develop climate change policies and frameworks that touch on many aspects of the global economy. We must always remember that economic growth and open trade provide the conditions in which protection of the environment can best be achieved.
A global post-2012 UNFCCC framework agreement that achieves consensus and includes all major emitters to address climate change effectively and efficiently is the best course of action. In this policy paper, the International Chamber of Commerce provides the key principles and frameworks needed to make this integrated vision a reality.
