ICC BASIS and the Fifth Internet Governance Forum (IGF)
Publication date : 14/09/2010
The overall theme for this year’s IGF was: “developing the future together.” IGF 2010 tackled emerging policy issues related to cloud computing, adding a substantive focus on Internet governance and development.
The main sessions provided comprehensive discussions on policy approaches and challenges to access, diversity, security, privacy, openness and critical internet resources. There were 113 workshops, best practice forums, dynamic coalition meetings and open forums which provided in-depth opportunities to discuss a range of Internet governance issues.
Remote participation was a great success this year, with 32 registered remote hubs compared with nine hubs in 2008 and 10 in 2009. There were seven remote hubs in Africa, including Burundi and Comoros, and more hubs in least developed countries (LDC) and small island developing States (SIDS) with remote hubs throughout the UN regions.
