Participants from 53
countries are set to attend a one-off launch conference and the first in a
series of practical masterclasses organized by ICC on its new and revised
Incoterms® 2010 rules. Members of the Incoterms® rules Drafting Group will come
together to give a detailed public presentation of the new rules and demonstrate
through case-studies the major changes and processes that users will need to
know in their everyday practice.
The revision, the first in a decade, reflects the
profound changes that have taken place in global trade since 2000. These
include the increased importance of cargo security and the resulting new
obligations on traders, developments in container transport, and the 2004
revision of the United States’ Uniform Commercial Code, which resulted in a
deletion of the former US shipment and delivery terms.
Addressing these and other changes, the launch conference and
masterclasses held on 27-29 September
2010, will also offer drafting tips, real life examples of the rules in
action, and feedback from key actors involved in elaborating the rules.
“The launch events are a unique opportunity for trade professionals to learn the fundamentals
of the new Incoterms® 2010 rules from the drafters themselves,” said Emily O’Connor, ICC Senior Policy Manager and Secretariat
for the Drafting Group. “There is no organization better placed than
ICC – the organization that created and maintains the Incoterms rules – to help
traders learn how to apply the rules correctly to their global or domestic sales transactions.”
The launch conference and masterclasses will be of particular
interest to contract/execution managers involved in the export/import of goods;
trade finance officers; in-house freight and carriage operatives; in-house
insurance specialists; commercial lawyers and anyone interested in learning
about the changes to the Incoterms® rules.
In addition to the two co-chairs of the Incoterms® rules
Drafting Group – Charles Debattista, Professor of Commercial Law at the
University of Southampton, UK and Christoph Martin Radtke, Partner, Lamy &
Associés, France – other presenters will include David Lowe, Partner, Wragge
and Co., UK; Lauri Railas, Attorney-at-Law, Krogerus Attorneys, Finland;
Miroslav Subert, Secretary, ICC Czech Republic; and Jan Ramberg, author of Guide to the Incoterms® 2010 rules.
