ICC G20 Advisory Group

ICC has established the G20 Advisory Group, comprising business leaders and CEOs from major global corporations, to effectively target G20 policy development on a global scale.

The group aims to establish an enduring, legitimate voice of global business – eventually recognized by the G20 governments as the primary source of business expertise on the global policy agenda.

The voice of global business - ICC engagement in the G20

ICC's constructive role in representing business views to the G20 is part of its historic mission to foster peace and prosperity through world trade. This has ranged from its engagement in developing the League of Nations, to Bretton Woods, to the International Conference on Financing for Development.
In this context, the work of the G7/G8 has been a natural focal point for ICC to promote robust and unfettered global trade and to ensure that government policy is aligned with core business goals of open trade and investment, economic growth and job creation. Since the Houston G8 Summit in 1990, ICC's Chairman has been received by the G8 host Head of State – enabling us to present policy recommendations on behalf of world business.

Opportunity and mission

The G20 has emerged as the "premier forum" for international economic cooperation, with an expanding policy agenda that bears upon our core goals for trade, economic growth and job creation. To date, however, the G20 process has progressed with little input from the companies which drive the world economy.
In this context, the work of the G20 is a natural focal point for ICC's unique international policy stewardship – and presents an opportunity for global business to establish an enduring mechanism to engage with the Group of 20 governments and provide regular input into the G20 policy process.

Creation of the ICC G20 Advisory Group

To undertake this task successfully, ICC created the G20 Advisory Group comprising a small number of business leaders who consider the G20 agenda relevant to their companies.
ICC's G20 Advisory Group is a platform for global business to provide input to the work of the G20 on an ongoing basis. The ICC Advisory Group mobilizes worldwide policy-making expertise and solicits priorities and recommendations from companies and business organizations of all sizes and in all regions of the world. The Group is composed of approximately 20 CEOs working to ensure that the voice of business is heard by governments, the public and the media before, during and after each Summit.

Why ICC?
