The event is part of a series of meetings the ICC G20 CEO Advisory Group has held since June 2011. Global consultations give local businesses the opportunity to be heard and to channel their priorities into the G20 process.

In cooperation with ICC Australia and the ACCI, ICC held two consecutive consultations with business and chamber leaders, ambassadors and government officials to gauge the outlook of all groups toward strengthening the G20 and Business-20 Summits in Brisbane in November 2014.

Peter Anderson, Chairman, Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry was invited to the Canberra consultation and a prior consultation held in Melbourne on 22 March 2013. In total, participants arrived from key governments departments including the prime minister and cabinet's office and the Treasury of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Results from the consultation will be fed into the business recommendations that are being produced in advance of the G20 Leaders Summit to be held in Saint Petersburg on 5-6 September 2013. The primary business input into the G20 process is being orchestrated by Alexander Shokhin, President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP), who has been appointed by Russian President Vladimir Putin to lead business policy task forces during the Russian G20 cycle.
