Johannesburg, 5 October 2012

With the purpose of resolutely shaping business recommendations for consideration on the G20 Russian Summit agenda, the ICC G20 CEO Advisory Group held a roundtable consultation with business leaders from South Africa and the nearby region. The meeting took place on 5 October 2012 at the Gallagher Convention Centre near Johannesburg.

Co-hosts included ICC South Africa and Brian Dames of the ICC G20 CEO Advisory Group and CEO, Eskom Holdings.

The event led off with introductions from Chose Choeu, Chairman, ICC South Africa and Representative, Eskom. Jean-Guy Carrier, Secretary General, International Chamber of Commerce, followed with remarks on ICC's continuing role with the G20.

An open discussion on the policy development process ensued. Topics included the G20 business summit, task forces, and policy issues of importance to South African businesses such as economic growth and employment.

The ICC G20 CEO Advisory Group looks forward to continuing its partnership with ICC South Africa and representing business interests in the region for the G20 business summit. Actions to be taken after the meeting include:
  • Incorporating consensuses from the global consultation and future canvassing efforts of business views in South Africa into business recommendations for consideration on the Russian G20 Summit agenda
  • Continuing to work closely with the South African government and regional businesses during future business summit events
