The G20 was first established in 1999 in an effort to help stabilize the global financial market. After the 1997 Asian Finacial Crisis, it was decided that advanced and emerging economies, the G20, should gather annually and discussed different ways a sustainable economic growth and development can be achieved.
When the 2008 financial and economic crisis touched many businesses worldwide, the G20 member gathered to help strengthen international cooperation in face of the new crisis. The first G20 Summit was held in Washington in 2008, in London and Pittsburgh in 2009, and in Toronto and Seoul in 2010.
