ICC G20 Scorecard

The fifth installment of the annual ICC G20 Business Scorecard rates G20 responsiveness to business priorities as 'fair' (2.0 out of 3.0).

Decisions taken at the 2015 G20 Leaders' Summit in Antalya were generally reflective of the "three I's" framework promoted by the Turkish G20 Presidency: making progress on implementation of past commitments, underlining the role of investments as a powerful driver of growth and promoting inclusiveness through an increased focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and an enhanced dialogue with non-G20 members.

The fifth edition Scorecard examines a total of 25 business priorities put forward during the 2015 Turkish Presidency and rates the G20's responsiveness across seven policy areas:

  1. Trade
  2. Financing Growth
  3. Infrastructure and Investment
  4. Employment
  5. Anti-corruption
  6. SMEs and Entrepreneurship
  7. Energy and Environment

Progress on these sets of priorities is scored on a scale of inadequate (0), poor (1), fair (2) or good (3).

The fifth edition's results are mixed, with an overall score of 2.0 (out of 3.0). The majority of the recommendations received a number of "Good" scores, reflecting solid progress on business recommendations. However, as in the past, a non-insignificant number of "Fair" and "Poor" and "Inadequate" scores pulled down the average - ultimately yielding a lower overall score than achieved in Brisbane last year. Compared to past Scorecards, there is a notable increase in polarized scores - either high or low, and less in between. This suggests that both business and G20 need to do a better job of communicating priorities and identifying areas where progress is both realistic and achievable.

Compilation of the annual Scorecard reflects ICC's belief that if the G20 has better information on how its actions are interpreted by the business community this will help it set priorities, honour commitments, measure its own progress over time and identify deficiencies that deserve greater attention. In parallel, ICC believes the business community should work more closely with the G20 to promote economic growth and job creation.
