ICC’s World Chambers Federation (WCF) supported CACCI’s fourth Local Chamber Awards and their third Asia-Pacific Young Entrepreneur Award.

As a key regional WCF partner and member of its General Council, CACCI has always been involved in WCF’s activities. KK Modi, Past President of CACCI, was a member of the 7th World Chambers Congress selection committee and Webster Kiang, CACCI’s Director General, served as a judge in the 2009 World Chambers Competition. ICC has also held a range of joint international trade training programs across Asia. CACCI will continue to be a member of WCF’s upcoming Congress and Competition juries.

This year, ICC and WCF publications and programmes were distributed to participants of the Young Entrepreneurs Group Asia Pacific breakout session to help promote youth entrepreneurship.

During the Gala Dinner, CACCI announced the winners of the fourth Local Chamber Awards and the third Asia-Pacific Young Entrepreneur Award.

The awards aim to recognize local chambers in the CACCI region that have undertaken outstanding activities for their members and for businesses in communities where they operate, as well as their country’s business sector as a whole. They also recognize young entrepreneurs who developed entrepreneurial and business leadership and who contributed to the social well-being of local communities.

The fourth Local Chamber Awards was granted to Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bangladesh for the Big Chamber category and to Selenge Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mongolia for the Small Chamber category.

Mr Nayana DP Dehigama, Chairman and Managing Director of Epic Lanka Technologies, Sri Lanka, was awarded the third Asia-Pacific Young Entrepreneur Award.

During the conference, the new CACCI Officers for the term 2011-2012 were elected and Ambassador Benedicto V. Yujuico from the Philippines was named CACCI’s President.

The 24th CACCI conference was held jointly with the Sri Lanka Economic Summit 2010, organized annually by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, a member of ICC World Chambers Federation. The Summit 2010 featured panel discussions that took a close look at the current economic conditions in Sri Lanka and prospects for growth and development following the end of its 30-year civil war.

WCF’s chamber award programme, the World Chambers Competition, will take place during the 7th World Chambers Congress in Mexico City, on 8-10 June 2011.
