Appointment of new ICC International Court of Arbitration Secretary General
The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) is appointing Andrea Carlevaris as Secretary General of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, in replacement of Jason Fry who will leave the organization on 20 July 2012, it was announced today by ICC Secretary General Jean-Guy Carrier.
Having started his career with ICC working as Counsel
between 1999 and 2003, Mr Carlevaris has been a member of the Court,
representing Italy, for the last four years and was a partner at the Rome-based
law firm Bonelli Erede Pappalardo Studio Legale.
"It is very good news for the ICC Court and Secretariat
that Andrea Carlevaris has accepted the offer to succeed Jason Fry as Secretary
General of the Court,” said John Beechey, President of the ICC International
Court of Arbitration, who welcomed the appointment of Mr Carlevaris. “Jason has
set the bar very high and I am confident that Andrea will be more than equal to
the challenge. He brings with him from private practice, in which he has
excelled, the same mix of client service ethos and case and personnel
management skills that has been a hallmark of Jason's tenure. Andrea is already
well known to the Court and Secretariat, having served the Court as a member
for Italy with distinction. He is well respected and, equally importantly, very
well liked. I look forward to working with him to ensure that we continue to
build upon the changes and achievements of the past four years and to which
Jason has made so significant a contribution."
Jason Fry also welcomed his successor: "I'm very
pleased for the Secretariat and for Andrea that he has been appointed Secretary
General of the Court to take over from me in September. He knows the
institution very well and from all angles as a former team counsel, lawyer
representing parties, arbitrator in ICC cases and as a dedicated Court member.
I wish him all the very best for his future at ICC."
Mr Carlevaris said: “Thanks to the unrivalled expertise of
its members and the dedication and professionalism of its Secretariat, the ICC
International Court of Arbitration is recognized as the most prestigious
dispute resolution institution in the world, and one to which I am extremely
attached. Taking a leading role in its management is for me a challenge and an
honour.”
Jose Ricardo Feris, Deputy Secretary General of the Court,
will assume the responsibilities of Secretary General until Mr Carlevaris officially
takes up his position on 1 September 2012.
