“Although anyone can read the Rules, it’s necessary to add some flesh on the bones in order to understand how they are applied in practice by both the Court and arbitrators who are sitting in ICC cases,” Mr Fry said. “It’s one thing to read the text and another thing to understand it and apply it to particular situations.”
In the interview, Mr Fry gives insight into why ICC updated the new Rules and outlines the features and learning outcomes of the two trainings, set to take place respectively on 27-28 February 2012, and 12-13 March 2012 at ICC Headquarters in Paris.
Underscoring why mock cases are central to the success of the trainings Mr Fry said: “Sitting listening to someone explaining the Rules is not the same as applying them in real life situations. The problems that have been designed for the mock cases will test people so that they can apply the Rules to actual situations and get the benefits of experienced views and opinions of the various trainers.”
Only a few places remain for the two-day practical trainings, which are a must for anyone involved in international commercial arbitration.
Illustrating new provisions in the 2012 Rules, the trainings will feature a series of mock cases to cover three main topic areas: emergency arbitrator provisions, case management and complex arbitration.
Led by some of the experienced international experts, practitioners and academics who drafted the new Rules, the trainings will help arbitrators, legal practitioners and in-house counsel to get the best out of the process and enable dynamic interaction with those who understand how the Rules operate.
Organized under the auspices of the ICC International Court of Arbitration the events also afford a networking opportunity in a dynamic and professional environment.
