ICC commends firm business representation on IGF advisory group

          ICC today welcomed the confirmed strong representation of business in the Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) responsible for ensuring a smooth preparatory process for the 7th Internet Governance Forum (IGF) – an open forum for policy dialogue on issues of Internet governance.

          2012 IGF big A United Nations announcement on the IGF was made today, acknowledging balanced representation of Internet stakeholders in the MAG. A total of 56 members, 33 among them were confirmed and included representatives not only from business but from government, civil society and the Internet technical community.

          Several ICC BASIS members were among the business representatives who secured a place on the MAG. They are:

          • Jeff Brueggeman, Washington DC, USA - AT&T, Vice President- Public Policy and deputy Chief Privacy Officer (USA)

          • Ayesha Hassan, Senior Policy Manager, Digital Economy, Executive in charge of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Policy, International Chamber of Commerce

          • Zahid Jamil, Senior Partner and Barrister-at-Law, Jamil and Jamil, Chairman Domain Name Dispute Resolution Centre (Pakistan)

          • Tero Mustala, Principal Consultant, Nokia Siemens Networks (Finland)

          • Jimson Olufuye , Vice-Chairman, Kontemporary TM/WITSA (Nigeria)

          • Ricardo Pedraza Barrios, Director Business Development, Global Public Policy and Government Relations, VeriSign Colombia (Colombia)

          • Charles Sha'ban, Executive Director, Regional Office, Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property, (Jordan)

          • Thomas Spiller, Vice-President, Global Public Policy, Europe, Middle East and Africa, The Walt Disney Company (Belgium)

          • Theresa Swinehart, Washington DC, USA - Executive Director, Global Internet Policy Verizon (USA)

          • Jennifer Warren, Vice President, Technology Policy & Regulation, Lockheed Martin Corporation (USA)

          In addition, Katoh, Masanobu - Executive Vice-president and Executive Director, Country Head of Japan, Intellectual Ventures (Japan) was named as a business representative.

          “We are honoured to represent the voice of business and contribute business experience and know-how to the proceedings,” said Ayesha Hassan, Senior Policy Manager for Digital Economy and Executive in charge of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Policy.

          The IGF was established to fulfil one of the commitments laid down by the second World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) which took place in Tunis 2005. The inaugural meeting of the IGF took place in Athens, Greece in 2006. As one of the major outcomes of WSIS, the IGF provides a unique opportunity for all stakeholders to discuss issues of crucial importance to the global development of the Internet.

          The IGF 2012 will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan from 6-9 November 2012.
