Bigger than ever, ICC Young Arbitrators Forum seeks new volunteers

Successful candidates will help run a multitude of regional and local events, a vital part of ICC YAF’s work in attracting under-40s from across the international arbitration community to get together, exchange ideas and learn from experienced practitioners about career development and hot topics in arbitration.

“These are exciting times for ICC’s Young Arbitrators Forum, which grows bigger every day. Since starting in 2008, YAF’s networking and mentoring opportunities have welcomed many thousands of young arbitrators – often for free – gaining enormous support from top law firms worldwide and wide respect in the arbitration community,” said Jose Ricardo Feris, Co-Chair of ICC YAF Global Coordinating Committee. Based at ICC’s global headquarters in Paris, this group helps select RCC members and coordinates YAF’s five Regional Chapters.

Working with other groups of young arbitrators and other professionals, YAF also organizes educational programmes and encourages its global network of motivated young arbitration professionals to write papers for distribution to the broader international arbitration community.

“Among the young members of the dispute resolution community, YAF’s recruitment of RCC members is quite big news, as it’s a great opportunity to become actively involved in the development of the global arbitration network at high levels. Volunteers will also be well placed to get close-up insight into ICC dispute resolution,” added Hannah Tuempel, Co-Chair, ICC YAF Global Coordinating Committee.

ICC YAF events are organized all year round in major arbitration hubs including London, Paris, Hong Kong and New York, as well in other cities such as Quito, Punta Cana, Kiev, Ramallah and Lagos. Short, interactive and often linked with social activities, they are usually hosted by law firms and other organizations.

As well as supporting their local and regional events, Regional Coordinating Committee members will have the chance to help run the ICC YAF Global Conference, which takes place every two years. This dynamic event brings together young counsel, arbitrators, corporate counsel and academics from around the world – whether they are YAF members or not.

In addition, five major ICC YAF Regional Conferences take place every other year when there isn’t a Global Conference. In 2014, regional events are planned in Rome (13-14 June), New York, Istanbul, Singapore and Paris.

“After a hugely successful Global Conference held in summer of 2013, we’ll be calling on the new team of RCCs to work together to organize another memorable ICC YAF Global Conference in the summer of 2015,” said Ms Tuempel.

ICC YAF regional representatives urge highly motivated young candidates with an interest in ICC YAF and active in the field of international arbitration or alternative international commercial dispute resolution to submit their application by 4 April 2014.
