ICC Secretary General John Danilovich gives closing remarks at the SDG Business Forum during the High Level Political Forum at the United Nations.

Mr Vice-President, Ministers, Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,

My thanks to you all for your participation in what has been an important event as we look to the shared objective of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Today’s discussions have showcased some of the important actions that business is already taking in support of each and every one of the 17 Global Goals.

Our commitment to a brighter future for all and a world in which no one is left behind is clear to see

That said: we can, must and will do more.

Our message to governments and the UN High Level Political Forum is simple: work with us to put in place the policy frameworks needed to unleash new waves of business investment, innovation and trade in support of the Global Goals.

The symbolic nature of this event should not be understated. It is, after all, the first time that business has been invited to host a forum on the UN campus alongside official meetings on the SDGs.

We hope that this is just a start, and that the emphasis placed on the private sector in the 2030 Agenda can be complimented by an ever closer dialogue with business on its implementation.

My thanks again to all of our speakers for their contributions to this landmark Forum and to our co-hosts – the Global Compact and the UN Department for Social and Economic Affairs.

As the world business organisation, ICC looks forward to working with you all in the coming months to accelerate progress towards achieving the SDGs.

Let us join forces to achieve the vision forged in this very building less than one year ago.

Thank you.
