Russia as a place for dispute resolution: anticipating the changes

ICC Russia together with the ICC International Court of Arbitration is organizing its annual conference to discuss arbitration in Russia. The Conference will be held English and Russian with simultaneous interpretation. This will be of interest to general counsel, corporate lawyers, legal consultants, representatives of law, arbitrators, and experts specializing in international disputes who would like to deepen their understanding of arbitration in this region.

At present the Russian Federation is on the verge of important reforms to the local arbitration regulation and the system of arbitration courts in general, pursuing the object of making Russia more attractive as a place for dispute resolution for the parties. During the last three years ICC Russia has been deeply involved in the process, initiating discussions with state bodies, entrepreneurs’ unions and arbitration experts. Thus, the main issues to be debated at the forthcoming conference and related to the expected changes in Russian arbitration laws are the following:

  • Requirements for the establishment, operation and dissolution of arbitration institutions (international or domestic) and ad hoc arbitral tribunals
  • Requirements to аrbitrators
  • Dualism of international and internal arbitration regulation
  • Arbitrability of disputes
  • Certain procedural issues.
