Develop your legal career, become an international arbitrator

As the number of international commercial arbitration cases rise, so does the need for experienced practitioners. In response, the International Chamber of Commerce’s (ICC) Advanced Arbitration Academy for Latin America aims to provide aspiring international arbitrators in the region with a comprehensive, practice-oriented training programme. The first of eight workshops is set to be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil on 24 August 2016.

After its success in Eastern and Central Europe, this programme is dedicated to the Latin America region. Taking place over a two-year period, the eight one-day sessions will be held every three months and rotate between Sao Paulo, Miami, Bogota and Mexico City.

Best suited for senior and upper mid-level arbitration practitioners interested in developing their legal career, this advanced course covers the main stages of the arbitration proceedings from an arbitrator’s point of view. From learning productive case management and drafting skills to the improvement of legal knowledge, participants will be able to confidently walk away fully capable of acting as arbitrators in international cases.

Each workshop will comprise the review and study of relevant topics on the basis of recommended materials. Speakers, who include high-level academics and leading practitioners, are chosen and change each time based on subject matter and specialization. They will provide participants with expert guidance on the most recent developments and current issues happening in the field today. Participants will also play key roles in mock hearings following a complex mock case, which will develop throughout the course’s duration. In using practical scenarios, participants will profit from an increased awareness of various situations one may encounter in practice as an arbitrator. Finally, this programme will provide the perfect venue for networking with fellow participants from the same area having a chance to connect, as well as gain priceless insight and advice from an elite group of speakers.

In an effort to maintain a fulfilling and high-level educational experience, only a limited number of applicants will be accepted. The deadline for registration is Friday, 13 May 2016 and applicants must include a Curriculum Vitæ to be considered. Please note that nationals from Latin American countries will be given priority.
