‘Leadership, Legitimacy, Legacy: A Tribute to Alexis Mourre’ book launched

In closing the first day of the 20th ICC Miami Conference on International Arbitration, the highly anticipated book ‘Leadership, Legitimacy, Legacy: A Tribute to Alexis Mourre’ was launched amidst an endearing audience.

On 27 October, ICC hosted an event at the Mandarin Oriental in Miami, US during the 20th ICC Miami Conference on International Arbitration – the largest flagship annual event of ICC Dispute Resolution Services – to pay homage to Alexis Mourre’s distinguished and dedicated service as President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration (2015-2021). The book launch was celebrated in the presence of the guest of honour, some of the editors and authors of the book, ICC leadership and prominent representatives of the arbitration community.

‘Leadership, Legitimacy, Legacy: A Tribute to Alexis Mourre’ is a collection of essays on Alexis Mourre’s service as President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration (2015-2021). The book is organised around the central pillars of his presidency: diversity, efficiency, ethics, transparency, and strengthening the global nature of ICC arbitration. Comprised of a series of articles and personal reflections from over 40 authors, many of whom are close colleagues, the book covers some of the most challenging issues of the Mourre presidency. Aspiring to inspire readers, it is a true testament and celebration of his leadership and legacy.

In its range of topics and diversity of authors, leaning into the most challenging issues, aspiring to inspire and innovate, and mixing academic rigor and personal reflection, this book reflects Alexis Mourre and what he brought to the ICC International Court of Arbitration. Alexis Mourre was a Court member of the ICC Court for 12 years, first as Vice-President (2009-2015), then as President (1 July 2015-30 June 2021).

Claudia Salomon, the first woman President of ICC Court, who succeeded Alexis Mourre, said: “If I can look further, it is only because I stand on the shoulders of giants.  In a time when arbitration itself was in a legitimacy storm, Alexis got arbitration back to safer waters and left the institution in a better place.
