Each sector shares its view on both sector specific issues and overarching transport and logistics issues with the goal of promoting intermodal trade.
Maritime experts include shippers, carriers, intermediaries and ports who maintain that shipping can best serve world trade if allowed to operate on a commercial basis, in a competitive market free from protectionism and other forms of market-distorting government support.
Maritime priorities include conveying world business positions on initiatives to modernize maritime and multimodal transport regimes, promoting market access in trade in maritime services, and exploring possibilities for further liberalization, including through the WTO. Also legislative and regulatory developments affecting shipping worldwide are closely monitored.
Air transport experts include express carriers, intermediaries, and airline and airport representatives. Priority issues include promoting global coordination on issues such as competition, security and the environment. Specifically, the commission presses for a global consensus on new aircraft noise standards with ICAO, the ratification of a draft global convention for aircraft financing and leasing, and the use of information technology for airway bills.
