Piracy
The ICC Commission on Transport and Logistics has taken an active role in condemning the acts of piracy that have become increasingly frequent in the Gulf of Aiden and throughout the Indian Ocean. In early 2010 and again in May 2011, the commission issued statements to this effect, calling on governments to take immediate, concrete action to halt this criminal activity.
The ICC Commission on Transport and Logistics works in close collaboration with the ICC International Maritime Bureau (IMB) that is specialized in the issue of piracy.
The IMB’s Piracy Reporting Centre, founded in 1992, is the only institution that maintains a round-the-clock watch on the world’s shipping routes, keeping a record of pirate attacks and reporting them to local law enforcement. The Centre also issues warnings about piracy hotspots to shipping.
