Decision makers are eager for tools that will help them to identify problems, track trends and set priorities, especially in an era of numbers, where decisions are increasingly data-driven. BASCAP's Global Survey on Counterfeiting and Piracy, conducted in cooperation with the Cass Business School, City University, London, polls 48 companies that span 27 product categories. Many of the polled companies have global operations.
The findings provide a snapshot of country and business efforts to stop the theft of intellectual property, which has become a substantial drain on business and has led to the widespread loss of jobs and a massive reduction in tax revenues.

Due to a data entry error, aggravated by the relatively small sample taken in ICC's Global Survey on Counterfeiting and Piracy, Canada was incorrectly listed as being among the best performing countries in addressing counterfeiting and piracy. In amending their responses, several respondents noted that Canada suffers from a deficient IP protection regime in several important respects, which continues to be the subject of intensive discussions between high-level government and business leaders.
