BASIS advocates policy positions shaped within the ICC Commission on the Digital Economy.
The Commission on the Digital Economy consists of business leaders and experts drawn from the ICC membership who establish key business positions, policies and practices on e-business, information technologies, Internet services and communications services. These business views are then fed into intergovernmental organizations and to national governments through ICC national committees, as they shape policies that directly affect business operations.
BASIS produces positions among its membership, which are then used to provide input into global forums and processes. For example, BASIS was a major force in the continuation of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF). It consistently advocated for its continuation with governments and other stakeholders to ensure that the UN General Assembly voted in favor of another five-year mandate for this important forum.
BASIS’s contributions serve as a primary resource for business expertise for governments, international organizations and other stakeholders. It is the most authoritative voice of world business at UN forums and agencies on Internet and ICT related issues.
