Launch of the ICC Research Foundation

at The Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues, Geneva

2 February 2009, 18.30 - 22.00

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2009. In addition to local and regional celebrations, special events were held throughout the year in a number of cities on three continents. The first was the event held on 2 February in Geneva, the seat of multilateral organizations including in particular the World Trade Organization.

This was followed on 3 February by a Forum convened jointly by ICC and the Evian Group at IMD in Lausanne on “Strengthening the Global Trade regime for World Prosperity and World Peace” (To read more about this event held at IMD, click here).

ICC was founded in 1919 immediately after the First World War by responsible business leaders who believed that international trade provided a path to peace and prosperity. They called themselves “merchants of peace”. ICC maintains that “peace and prosperity through trade” is even more valid today.
The theme for ICC’s 90th anniversary was “renewal”. ICC has been immensely successful in adapting and reinventing itself over the past 90 years and must continue to do so as it enters its 10th decade. The anniversary was a year of renewal – and in particular, renewal through thought leadership.

To strengthen ICC’s thought leadership position, The ICC Research Foundation has been established to provide additional intellectual capital to the work already being done by the ICC Policy commissions. The Foundation was launched at the event in Geneva.
