A National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) study, established by the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), said counterfeit auto parts constitute over 37% of the total market size of Indian aftermarket parts. (2) |

India today is a source of massive parts counterfeiting problem for the auto industry. IACC member auto companies report counterfeit parts make up 20% to 30% of the Indian market. The auto industry as a whole is suffering parts counterfeiting that is reported to be over 35% of the market and valued at roughly $434 million dollars in that country (3). |

India's film industry (BollyWood) is producing more than 1,000 films per year, yet according to the U.S.-India Business Council an estimated 80% of Bollywoods revenues are lost to piracy (4). |

Indian filmmakers assert that pirated films account for at least 50 percent of the revenue loss in a movie industry that produces more than 900 films a year. The revenue of the Indian movie industry, including overseas rights and music rights, is estimated at $1.3 billion, according to the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) (5). |

Cell phone "ringtone" piracy has become a major source of damage to the music industry, as an estimated 500,000 unauthorized ringtones are being downloaded in India every day. (11)

India saw a two percentage point drop in piracy, but piracy is still high considering the country’s world class skills in software development; the country exports three times as much IT as itconsumes. India is large enough and growing fast enough that it would support a strong local software industry if piracy were lower;between the end of 2005 and the end of 2009, more than 100 million new Internet users will come from China, India and Russia alone. A recent study by Business Software Alliance (BSA)-IDC reveals piracy is as high as 72% in India, which is costing industry around $566 m because of it (13). |

The Business Software Alliance reports that in all of 2004 the number of online software infringements traced to Indian ISPs was 1,672, but that this number grew to 4,112 in the first 10 months of 2005. At that rate, by year’s end it is believed that the number of infringements would have increased by 195% year on year, mainly in the P2P domain. (14)
