General:
bullet  In 2006, 207 cases linked to counterfeiting, piracy and general infringement of intellectual property were reported by the Belgian Customs Office amounting to 57 millions Euros in fines to offenders. (1)
bullet  The Belgian economy loses on average 9 billion Euros per year due to counterfeiting and fraudulent economic activity. (2)
bullet  In 2005, the Belgian Customs Office confiscated the most counterfeit goods of any state in the European Union totaling 19 million counterfeit objects. (3)

 

Alcohol:

bullet  It is estimated that the Belgian alcohol market loses 2.1 million Euros annually due to counterfeit alcohol production. (4)
Cigarettes:
bullet  In 2006, Began customs officials confiscated 36 million counterfeit cigarettes worth 6.5 million Euros. (5)
Software:
bullet Belgium is ranked 11 in the 2005 PC Software Piracy Rankings: 20 Countries with the Lowest Piracy Rates, yet lost $257 million to software piracy the same year.
