Leading sustainable growth and change
The Congress brought together in Kuala Lumpur some 1,000 chamber of commerce leaders, executives and their business members from more than 100 countries.
Under the theme umbrella "Leading sustainable growth and change" delegates sought tools and information they could use in their home countries to help company and government leaders to mitigate the effects of climate change and adapt to resulting environmental conditions. The event featured workshops on subjects such as networking, sustainable cities, social responsibility, environmental issues, intellectual property, customer service and certificates of origin.
Global recession
The Congress took place in the midst of the worst global recession since the Great Depression of the 1930s. Leaders of the global chambers of commerce community issued a statement identifying the global economic crisis and the impact of climate change as two major challenges transcending national borders and requiring concerted international cooperation.
