Enterprise – Network – Prosperity
Held for the first time in Latin America, and under the umbrella of “Enterprise – Network – Prosperity” the Congress highlighted global trends in international economic integration, responsible corporate practices, environmental sustainability and tomorrow’s labour force. It also underscored the importance of investment and innovation for economic growth and the active role of chambers in achieving this.
World Chambers Competition sets record in Mexico
The Congress provided a plethora of networking opportunities for delegates. It attracted 1,200 participants from 105 countries. Mexican President Felipe Calderon gave the opening address and world-renowned speakers included Muhtar Kent, Coca-Cola Chief Executive and environmental researcher Rajendra Pachauri, Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and Director General of The Energy and Resources Institute. The World Chambers Competition drew in a record number of applicants, with 72 projects from 41 countries, reinforcing the dynamic and innovative nature of the chamber of commerce movement. More than 90 media representatives attended the Congress, which attracted significant media coverage in the region.
Mexico City National Chamber of Commerce
The Mexico City National Chamber of Commerce (CANACO) was the host on this occasion. CANACO is a business association representing the interests of companies and businesses in Mexico City. Founded in 1874, CANACO was Mexico’s first chamber of commerce. Today CANACO is the largest chamber in Mexico and its mandate is to promote, protect and assist in the business development of retailers, distributors, importers and exporters in Mexico. CANACO draws on a large network of cooperation agreements with international organizations and chambers to facilitate information sharing and business transactions.
