United Arab Emirates join New York Convention
November 2006 
The United Nations Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards entered into force in the United Arab Emirates on 19 November 2006, following the UAE’s accession three months ago.

ICC Arbitration Day in Brazil
October 2006 
To mark the tenth anniversary of the Brazilian Arbitration Act, a special day of lectures and discussions will take place in Salvador de Bahia on 30 October 2006. Arbitration in East Asia
October 2006 
A conference on international arbitration in East Asia will take place in Seoul, South Korea, on 26–27 October 2006. Co-organized by the International Court of Arbitration, the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board and the Korean Council for International Arbitration, it will bring together renowned speakers from East Asia and elsewhere to share their views on issues of importance to this region.

New Director for North America
August 2006 
Josefa Sicard-Mirabal, a practising US attorney of Dominican origin, has been appointed as the Court’s new Director for Arbitration and ADR in North America.

ICC awards on banking and finance
July 2006 
The latest issue of the ICC  International Court of Arbitration Bulletin contains extracts from 14 ICC awards relating to banking and financial transactions, some of which refer to ICC documentary instruments such as UCP. The issue also carries the 2005 Statistical Report of the Court and articles on arbitration practice.

Dates set for 2nd ICC mediation competition
June 2006 
The second ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition will take place in Paris on 16–19 February 2007. Inaugurated in 2006, this competition is open to law schools in all parts of the world and is designed to test students’ problem-solving skills in a mock international mediation and thereby help prepare tomorrow’s lawyers for the varied needs of their future careers.  Click here  for more information on the 2007 competition.  

New appointments to ICC Court
June 2006 
The ICC World Council meeting in Paris on 16 June has appointed four new members and one alternate member to the ICC International Court of Arbitration.

Newsgroup for former interns
June 2006

May 2006 
The arbitrability of international insolvency disputes will be one of the questions discussed at an ICC conference on cross-border insolvency and conflict of jurisdictions to be held in Paris on 12 June 2006.

New issue of ICC Court Bulletin
March 2006 
Vol. 16/No. 2 of the ICC International Court of Arbitration Bulletin includes a special feature on the extension of arbitration agreements to non-signatories in groups of companies, as well as articles on recent developments in national legislation and case law.

New Chairman takes up office
1 March 2006 

Pierre Tercier, Professor of Law at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland, today took up his position as the new Chairman of the ICC International Court of Arbitration.


ICC inaugurates international mediation competition
January 2006 
Students from law schools in different parts of the world gathered in Paris this weekend for the first ever international commercial mediation competition, organized by ICC with the participation of leading mediation professionals.
