Paris to host next Joint Colloquium
This year’s ICC/AAA/ICSID Joint Colloquium will be hosted by the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris on 16 November. Distinguished arbitrators will join the leaders of the three institutions to examine issues of current interest including efficiency in arbitral proceedings, State-party arbitration and extending proceedings beyond the original parties.

Iran and ICC arbitration

New training modules in arbitration
A new series of training sessions aimed at experienced arbitration practitioners will be launched by ICC on 24-25 September. Originated by the ICC Institute of World Business Law, the first three modules will cover document production, site inspection and confidentiality.

New Delhi conference
The next biennial conference of the International Federation of Commercial Arbitration Institutions (IFCAI), of which the ICC Court is a member, will take place in New Delhi on 19 and 20 October 2007. International arbitration specialists will join representatives of the Indian legal profession to discuss topical issues, including arbitration clauses, case management and the role of the courts.

Rules for a Pre-Arbitral Referee Procedure now in Arabic
There is an increasing demand for information on international commercial arbitration from Arab countries. Last month, a conference organized in Tunis by ICC and two local organizations presented a broad picture of arbitration in the region. ICC now offers the Arabic-speaking world a translation of its Rules for a Pre-Arbitral Referee Procedure, alongside the already existing Arabic translation of its Rules of Arbitration.

Historic landmark for ICC Court
A new landmark has been reached in the history of the ICC Court with the registration of its 15,000th case. The case was filed by a Korean claimant against two Uzbek respondents and the parties have chosen London as the place of arbitration. New Secretary General named
ICC has announced that Jason Fry will succeed Anne Marie Whitesell as Secretary General of the International Court of Arbitration. A New Zealand and British citizen, Mr Fry, has been a Court member for the past seven years and has long-standing experience as a practitioner of international arbitration and private international law. He will take up his new duties in October.

International conference on the Arab world
An international conference on arbitration in the Arab world, jointly organized by ICC and two local organizations, CCAT and UTICA, will take place in Tunis on 17 and 18 May 2007. The increasing interest arbitration is attracting in this region reflects current growth in local economies and their rising importance at a strategic level. Conference participants will have an opportunity to hear international experts analyse recent trends in international commercial arbitation and to become better acquainted with the practice and characteristics of arbitration in the Arab world.

International Construction contracts and the resolution of disputes

ICC arbitration once again confirmed its international outreach in 2006 with proceedings in more countries than ever before and arbitrators of a record number of nationalities. A total of 593 new cases were filed, equalling the record set in 2002.

New parties to New York Convention
The Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards will shortly be in force in 142 countries worldwide, following the recent accession of the Bahamas, Gabon and the Marshall Islands. All three States have acceded to this key international arbitration treaty without reservations.
