ICC Court breaks record with over 500 new requests in one year
The ICC International Court of Arbitration had cause to celebrate when the 1999 year-count for new requests reached the psychological threshold of 500 in mid-December. By the end of the year it had risen still further to 529, bringing the total number of referrals in the Court's history to 10,821.
Demand for ICC arbitration services has increased tenfold over the last four decades. The geographical scope of ICC arbitration has never been so wide. Parties from virtually every country in the world now resort to ICC to settle their business disputes using the most widely applied international rules of arbitration.
ICC arbitration is known for its quality-control mechanisms, which ensure that the procedure will run smoothly and that the resulting award will have every chance of being enforced. No ICC award may be delivered without first being checked by the Court for defects. Hence the trust placed in the system by business operators throughout the world, who systematically insert the ICC standard arbitration clause in their contracts.
