ICC Russia inaugurates its Arbitration Committee
Ms Whitesell presented the ICC Court, its Secretariat and the mechanisms of ICC arbitration to an audience made up of practising attorneys, in-house counsel, university teaching staff and journalists. This arbitration event was a 'first' for ICC Russia and attracted much interest. Following Ms Whitesell's presentation, the inaugural meeting of ICC Russia's Arbitration Committee took place. The Committee is to be headed by Professor Alexander Komarov.
ICC Russia was formed in May 2000. Led by Secretary General Tanya Monaghan, it has already done much to make ICC arbitration more widely known in the Russian Federation. The ICC International Court of Arbitration now includes a member for the Russian Federation, following the appointment of Nina Grigorievna Vilkova on 8 December 2000. Ms Vilkova is professor of private law at the Russian Academy of Foreign Trade, where Ms Whitesell also gave a presentation about ICC arbitration.
