Key Staff Changes within the ICC Court Secretariat
Anne Marie Whitesell will take over as the next Secretary General of the ICC International Court of Arbitration later this year and Eduardo Silva Romero will become the new Deputy Secretary General.
Anne Marie Whitesell, who is an American citizen, joined the ICC Court Secretariat as Counsel in June 1996 and was appointed Deputy Secretary General in September 1998. After a B.A. degree from Smith College, followed by a period in France as a Fulbright Teaching Assistant, Ms Whitesell graduated in law from the University of Virginia School of Law. She was subsequently awarded a doctorate by the Panthéon-Sorbonne University in Paris (Université de Paris I) for her research on remedies for breach of contract in international arbitration.
A member of the New York State Bar, Ms Whitesell was also admitted to the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. She has practised with law firms in both the United States and France and lectured at the Institute of Comparative Law in Paris and the Panthon-Sorbonne University.
Eduardo Silva Romero is a Colombian citizen and joined the ICC Court Secretariat as Assistant Counsel in 1998. He has studied and practised law in both Colombia and France. His research on legal philosophy and language earned him a doctorate in law from Paris II University (Panthéon-Assas) last year. Mr Silva Romero is visiting lecturer on international arbitration at Paris IX University (Paris-Dauphine).
The new Secretary General takes over from Horacio Grigera Naon, an Argentine lawyer, who leaves ICC to return to private practice after almost five years with the ICC Court. Mr Grigera Naon will take up a Special Counsel position with White and Case in Washington, D.C. He will also act independently as an arbitrator.
Ms Whitesell and Mr Silva Romero will officially take up their new responsibilities on 1st October 2001.
