Assistant Counsel

 

As a leading international arbitral institution, the ICC International Court of Arbitration attracts a growing caseload from all over the world. The cases are administered by specialized teams with knowledge and experience of the major legal and cultural traditions. Each team is headed by a Counsel and includes two or three Assistant Counsel. The current vacancy is for an Assistant Counsel in a team based at the ICC International Secretariat in Paris.

 

The role involves both legal and administrative tasks including:

  • Reviewing and processing requests for arbitration and other documents filed by parties, arbitrators and others during arbitration proceedings
  • Preparing agendas (memoranda) briefing the International Court of Arbitration on decisions it is required to take
  • When Counsel is absent, replacing Counsel at sessions of the International Court of Arbitration
  • Correspondence and telephone conversations with parties and arbitral tribunals concerning all aspects of case management
  • Answering general queries about the ICC arbitral process by telephone and in writing

 

Successful applicants may also prepare notes or articles for publication, and represent the Court and its Secretariat during seminars and conferences.

 

Applicants should be recently qualified lawyers with professional experience in a legal environment. Experience in international arbitration, and/or commercial law would be an advantage.

 

Candidates must be well organized, have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to work effectively in a multicultural team.

 

Word perfect oral and written English is essential. Fluency in French and in other languages is an advantage.

Assistant Counsel Hong Kong Office
(to start in October 2008)


As a leading international
 arbitral institution, the ICC Court attracts a growing caseload from all over the world. The cases are administered by specialized teams with knowledge and experience of the major legal and cultural traditions. Each team is headed by a Counsel and assisted by two or three Assistant Counsel, and two or three secretaries or administrative assistants. The current vacancy is for an Assistant Counsel in a team dealing principally with cases in or connected to Asia. The post will be based at the ICC’s office in Hong Kong.

The role involves both legal and administrative tasks including:

  • Reviewing and processing requests for arbitration and other documents filed by parties, arbitrators and others during international arbitrations
  • Preparing memoranda briefing the International Court of Arbitration for its decisions
  • Correspondence and telephone conversations with parties and arbitral tribunals concerning all aspects of case management
  • Answering general queries about the ICC arbitral process by telephone and in writing
  • When Counsel is absent, partial replacement of Counsel including attendance at committee and plenary sessions of the International Court of Arbitration

Successful applicants may also prepare notes or articles for publication, and represent the Court and its Secretariat during seminars and conferences.
