ICC's 33rd World Congress, The new Europe in the world economy, was held in Budapest on 3-5 May.

With the full backing of the Hungarian government, the congress was inaugurated by President Arpad Gncz of Hungary and ICC President Adnan Kassar. Its main themes were financial strength, the global view, the world trade agenda, big issues for companies and EU enlargement.

Representatives from business and governments worldwide attended the congress, with a particularly strong participation from countries in the region.
