Dubai, the site of the world’s largest construction boom, will be the setting for the eighth ICC/FIDIC conference on construction contracts. This year’s conference will focus on the specific features of dispute resolution in international construction contracts and explore the practical implications and current developments, particularly in the Gulf.
World renowned experts in the field will lead sessions and be on hand to encourage interactive discussion among participants.
"It would be hard to imagine a more appropriate venue for a construction law conference than Dubai, nor a more appropriate time to hold one,” said Essam Al Tamimi, Senior Partner, Al Tamimi & Company and Member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration. “The United Arab Emirates’ recent accession to the New York Convention, and its consultation on a new federal arbitration law based on international best practice, show a clear intention to promote and institutionalize effective dispute resolution at the highest level. This conference has found its natural home."
The conference will take place on 22-23 April and will:
• Review the procedure for claims and disputes under FIDIC contracts
• Explain the legal entitlements of the contractor and employer
• Focus on specific features and practical implications of dispute resolution in international construction contracts (notably on dispute boards and arbitration)
Sami Houerbi, Director for the Middle East & Africa, ICC Dispute Resolution Services – ADR, ICC International Court of Arbitration, said: “International construction disputes have for many years represented a significant portion of the disputes submitted to the ICC International Court of Arbitration. Anyone involved in construction matters and dispute resolution – including engineers, contractors, government officials, financial institutions, arbitrators, and legal advisors should make this event a priority.”
