"In 1992, BP stated its support for the goals of sustainable development
adopted at the Rio conference that year. These were first defined in 1987 by
the World Commission on Environment and Development as "development that
meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of
future generations to meet their own needs".
"BP Amoco continues
to develop and implement strategies to address the
key environmental issues
facing society today. Our work on Climate Change is a current example. We have
set ourselves a goal to reduce our emissions of greenhouse gases by 10% from
a 1990 baseline over the period to 2010. By 2001, all major BP-Amoco sites worldwide
will have their environmental management systems certified to the ISO 14001
standard, and be producing verified site environment reports. The following
summarizes our operations that have formally satisfied the requirements for
external certification of their environment management systems:
