"It was important for a diverse, worldwide organization such as ICC to develop the guidelines for sustainable development and the environment for all industries to use. At DSM, our environmental policy was developed in parallel to the development of the Charter from the early 1990s. In order to complement the principles of the ICC Business Charter, other industries might follow the model of Responsible Care. Responsible Care builds upon the Charter by introducing measures more specific to the chemical industry. Other industrial sectors chould strengthen the Charter fundamentals by adopting a version of Responsible Care specific to their industry."
