BASIS Meetings
The global membership of BASIS is made up of companies and associations from a wide range of business sectors. Through the networks of ICC, the world’s most representative business organization, and non-ICC member partners, BASIS offers business expertise and voices business priorities on issues related to ICTs and the Internet in global discussions and forums.
BASIS meetings are held twice a year in conjunction with the meetings of the ICC Commission on E-Businesss, IT and Telecoms;generally in the spring and autumn.
At these meetings we aim to increase members awareness of the issues being discussed in the post-WSIS global forums, and update them on progress, discuss business activities, strategy and substantive positions. These meetings include the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), the Global Alliance for ICT and Development (GAID), and the WSIS action lines and follow-up process within the UN System, including the Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD).
The bi-annual BASIS meetings are complemented throughout the year with monthly conference calls for members. These calls are of vital importance to ensure that BASIS can continue to work with government, civil society, intergovernmental organizations and the contribute on substantive issues being discussed in these forums. BASIS members receive substantive updates on meetings, consultations, and developments in the above processes, and work over email to provide their contributions to BASIS inputs.
In addition, BASIS organizes business briefings at events, such as the IGF, to bring BASIS members and all business participants together to coordinate, share information, and organize input.
