Two new publications
on arbitration now available
Paris,
1 November 2004
- What impact have the advances made in information and communication
technology had on arbitration working practices? What risks and opportunities
do new technologies bring, and how are those involved in arbitration expected
to adapt to new expectations?
Using Technology
to Resolve Business Disputes is a new collection of articles that
answers the above questions and sheds light on the technological resources
available to international dispute resolution. Written by online arbitration
specialists, the articles provide practical guidance on how to apply new
resources judiciously and cover issues such as operating standards to
be considered when using new technologies in international arbitration.
"In the field
of dispute resolution, as in any other field, it is important that this
adaptation should be undertaken with due care and reflection so as not
to undermine the fundamental principles of the process," notes ICC's
International Court of Arbitration Chairman Dr. Robert Briner, in the
publication's foreword.
Using Technology
to Resolve Business Disputes is a special supplement to the ICC
International Court of Arbitration Bulletin and includes a presentation
by Special Counsel at the Secretariat of the ICC Court of Arbitration,
Mirèze Philippe, of the Court's secure, online, arbitration facility,
Netcase.
ICC Arbitration
in Practice is another new publication from ICC Books this month that
anyone with an interest in arbitral procedures will find indispensable.
This publication provides a thorough analysis of the Rules of Arbitration
of the International Chamber of Commerce.
Since they were first launched in 1922 they are the rules most frequently
used in commercial disputes between business partners from different countries
and have been applied in over 13,000 cases.
ICC Arbitration in
Practice guides the reader through the various stages of ICC arbitration
and, in addition, includes:
- a digest of statistics
relating to ICC arbitration for the years 1999 to 2003;
- a comparative table
of references to selected national arbitration laws;
- a bibliography,
including useful websites;
- a chapter on ICC's
other dispute resolution services.
Both ICC Arbitration
in Pr
actice and Using Technology to Resolve Business Disputes
are available in English and French and can be ordered online from the
ICC Business Bookstore.
