ICC welcomes G20 boost to trade finance and pledge to conclude Doha Round
Paris, 2 April 2009
ICC today congratulated the G20 leaders for taking a multilateral approach to resolving the world economic crisis. In particular, ICC applauded their agreement to kick-start trade by significantly increasing trade finance, rapidly concluding the Doha Round of trade negotiations, and strengthening promises to avoid protectionist measures.

Trade volume and value decline sharply as a result of crisis

Trade has significantly decreased in both volume and value as a result of the worldwide recession and may be reduced further due to tight credit conditions, ICC said in a report presented at a meeting of banking experts organized by The World Trade Organization.

Financial crisis to be addressed at first ICC banking meeting in Gulf

ICC, in association with ICC United Arab Emirates and the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) is set to host a major ICC Banking Commission meeting in Dubai from 10-12 March at the Dubai Chamber Auditorium. The meeting – sponsored by Mashreq Bank and China Systems – will be attended by eminent banking professionals from over 100 countries.

Lowest global economic index in history

The world economic climate index fell for the sixth consecutive quarter, dropping 10 percentage points to reach its historically lowest level since the introduction of the World Economic Survey in 1981, according to the ICC and the Ifo Institute for Economic Research, who conduct the survey.
