Two ICC arbitration conferences are scheduled next month, focusing on
dispute resolution under international construction contracts and arbitration
in Latin America.

In Miami from 26 - 28 October, ICC joins forces with its affiliate in the United States, the US Council for International Business, to field a line-up of outstanding arbitration practitioners to give an ICC perspective on aspects of arbitration that are particularly relevant to Latin American cases.

The Deputy Secretary General of the ICC Court, Eduardo Silva Romero, who will speak at the opening session, said: "This is a rare opportunity to become fully informed about the current state of international commercial arbitration in the region."

Topics covered in a Latin American context will include party autonomy, state contracts, public policy, the impact of civil procedure and domestic arbitration, the validity and enforcement of awards and judicial attitudes to international commercial arbitration.

In Paris on 30-31 October, ICC and FIDIC - the international federation of consulting engineers - will co-host a conference on the resolution of disputes under international construction contracts.

The conference will review procedures for claims and disputes under FIDIC contracts, whose conditions of contract generally state that disputes, unless otherwise specified, shall be finally settled under ICC Rules of Arbitration, by arbitrators appointed under the rules.

During the conference, the various ICC dispute resolution mechanisms that can be used in construction contracts will be presented.

Speakers will discuss what happens when disputes arise and how they can be resolved in the most cost-efficient and timely manner.
