As the world’s pre-eminent institution specializing in the arbitration of disputes arising under international contracts, ICC’s International Court of Arbitration has received thousands of cases for review and decision since its inception in 1923.

In order to encourage a greater understanding of the ICC Court and its rules, widely regarded as one of the world’s leading set of rules for the arbitration of international commercial disputes, A Guide to the New ICC Rules of Arbitration  by Yves Derains and Eric Schwartz - two prominent lawyers and former secretary generals of the ICC Court of Arbitration - was published in 1998, the same year in which revised rules were agreed by the Court. Now recognized as a classic, this Guide set out in detail the requirements for those wishing to submit a dispute to ICC arbitration or to one of the other conciliation services offered under ICC auspices.

Since that time, the ICC Court has received more than 4 000 new requests for arbitration under the 1998 rules. Because the rules are evolving and dynamic, a second edition of the Guide, greatly anticipated by the arbitration community, has been published and is now available from www.iccbooks.com.

ICC arbitration rules have always been the subject of an evolving body of practice and jurisprudence. This Second Edition of the Guide, while retaining the format of the first edition, reflects ICC arbitral practices in the 21st century.

Published by Kluwer Law International and distributed by ICC Publishing , A Guide to the ICC Rules of Arbitration provides a useful roadmap to first-time users of the rules and experienced practitioners, such as lawyers and business executives, in navigating their way through the changed landscape of ICC arbitration.
