The International Chamber of Commerce is commited to an efficiently functioning global economy characterized by free and fair competition.

However, when business transactions are affected by the payment of bribes, they are not transparent and disrupt a sound competitive environment.

Therefore, ICC's main objective is to encourage self-regulation by business in confronting issues of extortion and bribery, and to provide business input into international initiatives to fight corruption.

The commission on anti-corruption is composed of 

• anti-corruption policy experts from ICC member companies from a wide range of business sectors and national backgrounds and
• business representative organizations

Major tasks and priorities:

• The commission revised and issued ICC rules of conduct and recommendations to combat extortion and bribery.
• Publication of a Fighting Corruption Handbook

• Awarness raising of the problem of the solicitation of bribes as a key element in fighting corruption.

• Monitoring of the latest developments relating to the implementation of the UN and OECD conventions against corruption.

Projects for 2007:

• Update the Fighting Corruption Handbook. 
• Stregnthen links with the World Bank and other intergovernmental organizations engaged in the fight against corruption
• Develop ICC recommendations on corporate whistle-blowing schemes
• Provide business input into the UN Convention against Corruption implementation process 
• Present ICC views to the OECD on private-to-private corruption.
