UN Convention against Corruption

ICC input into UN Convention against Corruption

ICC's Commission on Anti-Corruption is playing an active role in the implementation process of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) adopted on 9 December 2003 in Merida (Mexico). The Convention is the first legally binding, anti-corruption instrument that is global in scope, and deals with corruption in government and business.

 

In June 2005, ICC issued Policy Statement to encourage national governments to work towards the prompt ratification and implementation of the UN Convention by all signatory countries:

 

In December 2006 on the occation of the first Conference of State Parties to UNCAC, ICC and other business organizations issued a declaration named "Business objectives for UNCAC"which includes recommended steps to bolster monitoring and follow-up to the convention.

To date, 140 countries have signed it and 80 have ratified UNCAC.
