Trade and investment as environment protectors

Writing in the Polish Warsaw Business Journal, on the occasion of the UNFCCC in Poznan, ICC Secretary General Guy Sebban urged negotiators to bear in mind the inextricable link between climate change and trade and investment. Mr Sebban also highlighted the need for strong protection of intellectual property rights to ensure private sector investment in new technologies.

Bonn, 20 May 2008  An international regime on access and benefit sharing (ABS) of genetic resources must consider the wide variety of ways business sectors use these resources, the International Chamber of Commerce said today, speaking at the 9th Conference of the Parties (COP-9) of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) Convention for Biological Diversity (CBD).
