2011 UNEP Business and Industry Global Dialogue
co-organized with the International Chamber of Commerce
(ICC) and
co-hosted with La Poste

11-12 April 2011                                                                                                                                 Paris, France

The 2011 edition of the Business and Industry Global Dialogue co-hosted with the International Chamber of Commerce and La Poste will address the importance of Strengthening the role of the private sector in the transition to a Resource Efficient and Green Economy: On the road to Rio+20. The overall goal of the 2011 Business and Industry Dialogue is to review and operationalize the role and contribution of business and industry in the transition to Green Economy in the context of poverty alleviation and sustainable development and to identify its specific contribution to the upcoming global processes that will impact business and industries in the future.

Objectives

The two-day business dialogue will focus on two themes:

  • The Transition to a Green Economy –  reviewing key findings of the UNEP Green Economy Report and discuss the implications for the private sector on a sector basis.
  • The contribution of the private sector to global processes – elaborating input and a mechanism for engaging business and industry leading to Rio+20 taking into account related inter-sessional events.

UNEP's Annual Consultative Meeting with its international business and industry network has its origin in the first World Industry Conference on Environmental Management (WICEM) which was held at the Palais des Congrés in Versailles, France, in November 1984. Initiated by UNEP, WICEM was sponsored by world industry in co-operation with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), which has thousands of member companies in over 120 countries spanning every sector of private enterprise. The meetings have since been held every year and provide the opportunity for UN officials and representatives of industry and trade associations at a national and international level to discuss the world environment agenda.
