
Preparing for Copenhagen: The Bonn Climate Change Talks
From 1-12 June 2009, the UNFCCC hosted the 30th Sessions of the UNFCCC Convention subsidary bodies (SBSTA and SBI), the sixth session of the AWG-LCA, and the eigth session of the AWG-KP at Bonn, Germany. These conferences helped to prepare for the upcoming negotiations at Copenhagen during the COP15 discussions of December 2009
The 2009 UNFCCC Climate Change Conference at Bonn, Germany, focused on preparing for the international negotiations that will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark from 7-18 December, 2009. Follow up sessions in August (Bonn), September (Bangkok), and November (Barcelona) will enable negotiators to pursue in-depth treatment of important issues which will facilitate the final discussions at Copenhagen.
The AWG-KP discussed two major documents, one focusing on amendments to the Kyoto Protocal and the emissions reduction commitments of industrialized countries and the second covering other related issues such as emissions trading, project-based mechanisms, land use, and forestry.
The AWG-LCA discussed various issues, ideas, and proposals raised by Parties to facilitate negotiations among Parties for fulfillment of the Bali Action Plan.
